Book Review: The Wundersmith
THE WUNDERSMITH THE CALLING OF MORRGIAN CROW
BY JESSICA TOWNSEND
Morrigan Crow has finally found a place to call home, or so she thinks. The Wundrous Society promised her friends, family and protection. But her newly found friends turn against her when a mysterious figure starts black mailing them, Morrigan must try harder than ever to control her newly found powers. People are disappearing all over and Nevermoor is getting more dangerous by the moment. Can Morrigan keep her secret hidden or will she endanger her new family?
A wonderful tale form Jessica, truly dazzling.
I felt like I was a part of Morrgian's life and the Wundrous Society. I forgot how much I loved these characters from Jupiter, Hawthorne, Jack, Fenestra and so many more. In the few days it took me to read this book, I felt like I was apart of their wild and crazy lives.
This story definitely kept me guessing right until the end, and not giving any spoilers away, I think the ending was indescribably brilliant.
As Morrigan is still learning about the city of Nevermorr we get to learn it with her, and that reminds me of when we first stepped into the Wizarding world of Harry Potter for the first time. Nevermoor is a jumble of colour and magic, new and old, a city just waiting to be explored.
I think one of my favourite parts was when I got to learn not only about Morrgian and her struggles, but also the city itself. I personally enjoyed it when Morrgian was talking lessons all about Nevermoor. "The entire city of Nevermoor, laid before her in precise miniature. There were tiny winding streets lined with perfectly built shops and houses, pockets of greenery dotting the landscape here and there, the mighty River Juro snaking through the centre of the city." This reminds me of the history of London in the best of ways, form the high streets filled with sweet little shops and the smell of freshly baked bread form the bakery's. Don't forget the sound of horse drawn carts as they clatter against the cobblestone roads. But I guess you wouldn't see a lot of horse drawn carts in Nevermoor if you take the Brolly Rail, a fantastic way of traveling.
I would highly recommend this book to younger or older readers if you loved Harry Potter or The Unicorn Quest.
I'm going to give this a 4 out of 5 and I can't wait for the next book from Jessica Townsend.
